too late to breed

is it too late in the year to introduce corns for breeding? My male seems to be out of his 'looking for a girlie' thing and is back to his usual self and eating again.
If I do introduce them, is there any additional risk factors with it being so late in the season, or am I best forgetting it altogether and waiting until next year?
(male is 4 yo and 750g, female is 3 yo and 350g)
