Oh, Rats

Hi! I'm really interested in getting my first corn snake, but I'm full of questions. I'm sure most have been answered already, and I'll find them on my own though search, but I'm not seeing this one.

I have pet rats. I keep them in a large wire cage, not in an aquarium. Right now I have three large males, but I could easily house seven. I want to keep the snake (in an aquarium) and rats in the same large room, but I don't want to cause either animal undue stress.

Because the rats are in a wire cage, I think they'd be extremely easy for the snake to smell. I don't want the snake constantly drooling, per say, in the same way I wouldn't want to be kept in a room with prime rib that I wasn't allowed to eat, and I don't want the rats living in constant fear.

Does anyone have any experience with keeping rats (feeder or pet) and a snake in the same room?

Thanks for your time!
