Micros/macros are nice, keep in mind they have a very shallow depth of field. Which means that anything that is not on the focusing plane will not be in focus at a 1:1 ratio, which is actual size. To give an example, if you are photographing your snakes head, and his nose and eye are not the same distance from you, the nose or the eye will be in focus, depending on where you focus but the other will not be in focus. It can make for some neat artsy photos but if you want a total image focus, a true 1:1 macro at 1:1 won't give it.
