Finally Punkin is laying her clutch. I went home for dinner and did a peek. I saw her face sticking out of the laybox with "dirt mouth" from burrowing through the coconut just prior to laying. Another female had the "dirt mouth" the same day she laid so I knew it was a good sign. I saw about 8-10 good looking eggs already and there's plenty more where those came from. This is her second year, bred to the same male from last year, both amel supposedly het lav but definitely het anery. Last year her first clutch was all slugs and in her second clutch (unexpected ) only two eggs out of about eight went on to hatch. There was an amel and a snow, both were non-feeders and didn't survive. I have high hopes for her this year since they all look really good so far. I am praying (figuratively, of course ) that I get a high hatch rate this year and prove this pair to be het lav. I'd love an opal, but an anery/lav or snopal wouldn't hurt my feelings. If she double clutches (I'm thinking she will), then I'll multiply my chances by ???, or I'll just get a lot more amels and snows if the lav isn't there. We'll see the results at the end of July.
