I have a snowcorn female, which was bred to a bloodred last year, laid a small sized clutch of 9 fertile eggs. The female is not really big, so I decided to skip one year of breeding for her and just feed her well and use her again in 2008.
When I was cleaning my snakes earlier today, I picked up this particular snowcorn female, and she looked pretty gravid, I didn't introduce any males this year, but I definately think she IS gravid...
Of course there's sperm retention... A female could use the sperm which was "saved" from last year... in 06 she was bred to a bloodred, but in 05 she was bred to an amel bloodred at the previous owners place...
What are the possibilities with sperm retention..? Could all eggs be fertilized by last year's sperm? I never dealt with this situation before... and actually I feel very stupid at this moment... because I wanted to breed a lava or an ultramel motley het anery to this snow, but decided it was better just to wait a year, bigger males, and better for the female... but now she's gravid... from a project I already started before :P
