An '07 who's really a yearling...

In the middle of March of this year, I introduced our female anery hurricane motley, Raven to our lavender male Gabriel in hopes of producing some het anery lav mots for future projects. Raven had just finished what I believed to be her second shed post brumation.

I have never seen a female so adamantly reject a male suitor. She literally flung herself out of the breeding viv...total rejection of his advances. Not worried, I decided to allow her a few days rest then a retry. The second attempt, 3 days later, resulted in her absolute refusal again. Thinking that perhaps she was just not ovulating I put her back in her viv and decided to try in another week.

Three days later was feeding day. When I went to her viv and lifted her hide house, much to my amazement she had laid a clutch of slugs, but in the bunch there appeared to be one viable egg. In '06 I had matched Raven with Apollo, our amel striped, het anery male. They had produced some wicked cube mots for me, normals and anerys. She also went on without a rebreeding to produce a smaller second clutch later in the year.

I felt it almost impossible that this supposed fertile egg in this year's clutch would be viable but I went ahead and incubated none the less.

Much to my amazement, this egg went on to hatch on June 5/07...a beautiful anery motley female is the result.

This little anery mot female will remain here. After selling all the cubed mots from last year from the Apollo x Raven clutch, I had had second thoughts that I should have held a few of the anery mots back. Thank you Raven for retaining that one little sperm for all this time so I could have my wish a whole year later.

Raven has been much more receptive to Gabriel and is gravid again, so I'll get my hets I so wanted but also this little surprise that I am very thankful for.

Ruth
