Welcome Camille. And don't worry about your English, I am French too, I understand you.
The spell check really help me a lot hehe.
Bienvenue sur ce forum! (Welcome to this forum).
Thanks . I still want to get some corns from you eventually. I have my eye on a male blood and that male amel het caramel but i just need to raise the funds!! We have a sick blood python here i rescued and she's taking alot to recuperate.
Will take a few minutes over the holidays to add a note about myself here and say 'Greetings' to the fellow Canadians on this forum - so far looking like the place to chat about Corns!!
I am a resident of Regina, Saskatchewan and have been here for just about 2 years now. We were in Alberta for 15 years prior to that. I have had a variety of snake species (and a few lizards) over the years, but our move to Saskatchwan forced us to give up our boas and pythons and focus on colubrids. I currently breed Honduran milksnakes (tangerine, ghost and albino) and corns - with a focus here on creamsicles and related emoryi/corn intergades (or hybrids - depending on your interpretation of the taxonomy!!)
I keep about 10 adult hondurans and 12-15 adult corns and produce a few clutches of each a year. My focus in breeding emroyi/corns is to develop color varieties from corns that have a more typical emoryi/corn appearance - increased saddle number, reduced saddle border, reduced side pattern and reduction in the red tones with enhanced yellow and orange. I like the heavy body and fast growth rate that emoryi corns have as well as the typical color.
I am currently working with caramel in my emoryi/corn lines and have outcrossed to pure emoryi to retain the strong emoryi look. I was fortunate to hatch cinnamons (hypo A), anery, snow and ghost emoryi corns this year. Several of these have gone to other breeders and I have kept the ghosts and some snows. I am very interested in how the expression of yellow in the snows and ghosts will appear - while overall emoryi corns seem to have enhanced yellow, it may be that they do not have the yellow neck and chin markings that appear on corns as they mature.
I look forward to participating here more in the future - very nice to have a hybrid forum to discuss these guys.

(I'm going to use Christina's great idea for intro. as I'm not good at it personally - thx! )
Name: Cheryl
Age: 31 and loving it!
Location: Southern Manitoba
Family: Great hubby named Rich (who also has an anery, but I'll get to that), I recently gained guardianship of my niece who has come to live with me (with her father's agreement) to straighten herself out and finish school - she's a great kid and I love her to pieces - it's just a shame she can't get along with her dad... but hey that's life.
Also - 1 dog, 3 cats & 1 emperor scorpion / 1 leopard gecko (neice's)
Work or school : I'm a divisional librarian for the province. Boring paperwork, but for some strange reason I enjoy it...?
About me: Here's where it gets hard... <scratches head>... Basically, I'm pretty easy to get along with and have been told I have a 'sunny' personality. I have my moments too.. where I stick my foot in my mouth by saying something stupid, but that's about it. I have little tolerance for people who are nasty to others and am usually the first to step up and defend (which sometimes then gets me in a bit of a spot, but hey...). I'm a pisceas and I'm told they crave 'peace and tranquility'... ... personally, I just like it when everyone gets along.
My Cornsnake Story:
To tell the truth, I had never considered owning a snake until I started looking at them when I bought my husband his emperior scorpion. Even then, I still just looked at them and think, hey that would be neat, but not right now.
We found my corn in August of this year in the backyard of a friend's place. After catching and taking a picture of it (I think it's a she...) the fellow at our local pet store told us we had an albino corn snake. I immedialy fell in love! After checking for any "lost snakes" posters in the area and with the humane society, I adopted her into our home. I named her Luna and I still marvel every day at what an amazing creature she is. My husband also fell in love with Luna and as luck would have it, there was a reptile/snake expo coming to our city. We came home with an anery hatchling (AJ - short for Aries Jr.) purchased from Ruth Hanney. We had a bit of a (new parent worry) at the start as AJ was stubborn and wouldn't feed, but he finally did and is doing great now! Thanks Ruth for your support! I know my husband felt much better after your emails.
So now we're one big happy family! I call us the 'Brady Bunch from H*ll'... lol Friends tell us we should charge admission to our house now!
I can't say I know everything about corns, but I'm learning!
Where I live: Halfway between Red Deer and Edmonton, AB
Am I married? Why of course I am! To my sweetheart Nicole
What I do: I work as an aircraft engineer.
About Me: I love pets. I really do. Our house is full of them and I love coming home to them everyday. We have three cats (Chika, Bonnie, Pennie), three dogs (Ridy - LH Chihuahua, Walter - Wiener Dog, Fletcher - MinPoodle), one bird, two hermit crabs, two snakes (Olaf and Lenny) and one dearly departed bunny today, Oscar....
My cornsnake story:
I always loved snakes when I was younger, but I never really thought of getting one as a pet until last year. So an internet search of breeders lead me Hanney's Corns, and that further revealed that she would be attending an expo in Red Deer this past August. So I browsed her availables, and found my little Lenny, whom I excitedly picked up last August. Two weeks later, I was browsing the bargain finder to see that someone was selling an adult corn. So I picked up my little Olaf (who was underfed, neglected and VERY skiddish) and brought him home. They are both quite happy and well handled now. I hope to get more, but not until I build myself some type of shelving unit to store these guys.
I don't have any plans on breeding corns, at least not yet, so I think I will keep my fancy to strictly ownership. Perhaps if I fell in with the right crowd, they could persuade me otherwise. I would love to get myself a milksnake, a kingsnake, and more corns, but only time will dictate that!
I plan on staying here where we live for some time as I have a solid job and a trusty ol' house! What more could I want?
Family: Me, my mom and my 2 kids age 17 yrs and 7 yrs
Work: Full time reptile breeder
About Me
I have been in love with reptiles my whole life. I was born in California and that gave me plenty of opportunities to go herping as a child. Like many child herpers I became intrigued with these beautiful animals. Though I didn't start keeping them until much later in my life, they always had a special place in my heart.
I started volunteering in Veterinary Clinics at the early age of eight and have been a part of the profession ever since. In my late teens, after I moved to Canada with my family, I got my first job as a veterinary receptionist. Dr. Lynne Andrews, my wonderful boss, who had some 20 odd years of reptile husbandry and breeding experience at the time, reintroduced me to my addiction to reptiles. I started with one corn snake as most new herpers do.
It was quite remarkable how one small snake had such an impact on my life. In one year I had increased my collection to 29 various reptiles. Dr. Lynne took me under her wing and taught me everything she knew regarding husbandry and breeding, as well as, veterinary procedures. She is still a great wealth of information for me today.
It's been 18 years since my first corn snake and my first job. I have been breeding mainly snakes and geckos for about 15 of those years and working as a vet tech for about the same.
My collection has gone from a 29-reptile hobby to a 500 snake breeding business.
In the last ten years I gradually increased my collection to include high-end boas and pythons with much success. I still plan on breeding my corns and kings, which includes a lot of the normal patterns and color variations, but I am becoming more enchanted with all the fancy colors and patterns as well. I should be producing several of these this year. Every year keeps on getting better and better.
Here in Canada we are still babies compared to the rest of the herp world but we are catching up fast. Reptile keeping has taken off in the last ten years and I see no end to it. I am so thankful for being a part of this reptile explosion and will continue, along with all of you, to be totally addicted.
Here are some of my kids and a couple of my rooms ......
Nette...I'm so glad you found us! I agree, over the past few years this hobby here in Canada has boomed...and it's 'pioneers' like you and Mary who have helped that happen.
Location: Currently Leader, Saskatchewan but I will be moving shortly to the Vancouver
area.
About me: I currently work as a Welder/Fabricator but I will be switching back to my old line of work which was Fusing Polyethylene gas lines and welding gas mains. If I'm not working I'm looking after the snakes, building custom enclosures for them, working on my classic truck or if I have any time after all that I go fishing. I'm also a big fan of motorcycles and tattoos both of which I need more of, especially the motorcycles seeing as I don't have one yet.
Corn Snake history: I bought my first reptile which just happened to be an Amelanistic corn about 8 years ago, that quickly kickstarted the obsession and at my highest point I was working with around 50 snakes.....mostly corns. I'm currently only keeping a few select corns right now due to my upcoming move but once I'm settled in out in BC I'd very much like to start working with some new projects. I also tried my hand at breeding my corns for the first time last season and successfully hatched out 24 perfect hatchlings so basically I'm hooked on that aspect of it now with my focus being on Okeetee's.
Anyway, long time corn nut here and I look forward to getting to know a few others.
My wife Cheryl told me about this site and mentioned you where here so I thought to stop by and say hello.
How's AJ's mom (Ebony) and dad (Aries) doing? I'm sure they miss their baby anery het hypo.
Aries Junior has been doing very well and growing rapidly since the last time we talked. After we solved that feeding problem in the first month he hasn't missed a meal yet and he's doubled in size & weight since October.
