Wow..our first husband and wife team. Glad you decided to join us Richard. Mom and Dad are doing great and are slated for different partners this year. Ebony, to our snow male Taz, and Aries is going to have a go at Maya, our Aztec female.
Maybe we'll 'home' some of their hatchlings in Winnipeg on June 2/07 at the Expo.
I'm glad to hear you'll be attending the next Winnipeg expo. I Hadn't heard of any news yet regarding the next one until you mentioned it. By June 07 AJ will be in a much bigger cage and I'll have all this spare smaller cage stuff for a new one.
I've been preparing the wife for the posssible addition of a blood red for my next purchase (preferably female). I think cheryl might want another one by then as well, she always speaks fondly of lavenders and snows. Any predictions for hatchlings by the time you get to Winnipeg?
Family: My fiancé, Matt, and our numerous pet corn snakes.
Work: Currently a full-time student at Red Deer College taking a two year Legal Assistant Program. I am also in the process of look for a part-time job within the city.
About Me: Born and raised in Lethbridge Alberta, where my family still reside. I am recently engaged, during one of the Edmonton Reptile Show.
My Corn Snake Story: I was introduced to snakes through myfiancé when I first met my him. His roommate thought he could scare me by showing me Milton(Matt's first corn). At first I was terrified because I thought Milton was a tarantula (My number one fear, are spiders of any kind). BUT, I fell in love when I notice that she was infact a corn snake and the addiction was born. Then it was snake after snake and new interest in a new morph after new interest. To the final amount we have now.
First Corn Snake: My first corn snake, that I consider my baby, was a subadult normal male named Chili. AND, the first corn snake that I purchased was a female Miami Phase.
Well that is all that I can think of for now... looking forward to this years breeding season and can't wait for all those new little hatchlings... AND, I am really excited for all the new morphs (rare morphs) that we will be producing and those from everyone else...
Ok well my name is Steve Mathies and i live in Tecumseh, Ontario. I am 28 years old and live with my girlfriend of 5 yrs Nicole in a small 2 bedroom house with 2 dogs Zoe & Phoenix) and 2 cats(Tiger & Cali) and a room full of reptiles.
Mine is more of a reptile story then a corn story. It started about 3 yrs ago, one of my friends was getting a Bearded Dragon from her cousin that bred them. She asked me i i wanted one for my birthday and i said sure. That started my crazy reptile addiction. I currently own 5 bearded dragons, 6 crested gecko's, 1 day gecko, 2 afrcian fat tails, 15 leopard gecko's, a red foor tortoise and 6 cornsnakes. And the list keeps growing. As for the corn part of this story is actually was last summer, my buddy was moving to Alberta for work and needed to sell his collection a various snakes. So even though my girlfriend hated snakes at the time i managed to talk her into letting me buy this beautiful pair of sunglow corns. I told here i just want these 2 snakes and that will be it. She liked these snakes because they where really docil and easly handled. So we went to the next expo in Mississauga and picked up a beautiful female normal motley form Hanney's Crons named Morgana. She was a little fire ball and tryed to bite me everytime i tryed to pick her up. Oh well she's coming around now and is pretty easy to get out. She still tries to scare ya off with a little tail rattle but other then that she good. Since then my collection has grown to 6 corns and i am always hunting for my next corn. I believe a Ghost is on the top of my list of wants.
Well i am glad to see some familier names from other forums and look forward to meeting new friends and learn alot of the things i've been trying to find out about the crazy Mumbo Jumbo of corn genetics.

(i hope i got everyone)
Story:That' my last name. My reptile tale goes something like this, I started with fish. From fish I went to frogs, then got the beardies, geckos, then a cornsnake. Then I got 4 more. Then another, and another, then another 3...and so it went on.
My wife and I really enjoy reptiles, and she helps me out with them as best she can. She's an RN, works 12hr shifts, so when she's not at work or sleeping, she's helping out.

Hi Ron, your snake story is sooooo similiar to mine. I too started with fish, moved onto a bearded dragon, then leopard gecko's, then to snakes I still have the fish ( 110g and 90g currently running) but downsized the dragons and leo's.
Family: Husband, 3 yr. old daughter, 16 yr old step daughter, great dane, golden retriever, 6 assorted birds, 4 rats, 2 frogs, 4 tarantulas, scorpion, multiple fish, about 160 cornsnakes, and 1 boa constrictor imperator
Work: Vet tech/receptionist
About Me: I love to read and study anything I'm interested in which includes, cornsnakes <obviously>, piercing and other body modification, ATV riding, 4x4ing. I of course participate in all those activities as well. I haven't had the time lately but I also enjoy doing agility with my retriever and attending assorted dogshows. If I can somehow scrape up the time I would love to go back to school to learn even more about the veterinary profession. I ADORE going to any seminar I can through work
My Corn Snake Story: I was in the pet industry for over 12 years and during that time I found a lot of "kids" that swore they loved animals yet when it came time to care for the reptiles, noone seemed to want to do it. I agonized when I saw that people would freak out if a cute little hamster got wet tail but think nothing of it if they saw a snake or lizard slowly starve or sit in a crusty dried up water bowl.
I of course just dug right in and took over managing the reptiles in all three shops, trying to educate customers AS WELL AS staff whenever I could. I wasn't able to keep a reptile of my own at home though as my mom had begged me to just follow two animal rules, no ferrets or herps At least I was litterally with them and caring for them pretty much every day though, so it wasn't too hard of a rule to follow!
Well as soon as I moved in with my boyfriend <now hubby> I took home my first rescue ball python and was hooked! I ended up marrying, buying our own house etc. and of course eventually decided to have a child. While off on maternity I had decided that when returning to work I must "get a REAL job" so pushed to get in at a vet clinic.
While off though I just missed the snakes too much so I got myself a few corns. Well of course it all snowballed and the rest is HISTORY!
So glad to be here to participate in discussions and learn even more every day!
About Me: I am currently taking a 2 year companion animal business course at the Nova Scotia Agricultural Collage. Once complete it will allow me to own and manage my own dog/cat kennels, pet store or any type of companion animal breeding facility(small animals, birds, fish and reptiles). I am currently running a pet related small business. I breed MANY types of small rodents, cage birds, and reptiles, plus sell many supplies! I pride myself on my fancy mouse collection and my collection of reptiles!
I hope that this becomes a larger scale business in the future!
My Corn Snake Story:I bought my first corns about 4 years ago now and it has grown in a unstoppable hobby! lol..I just can't get enough of them! Or any other kind of snake!
I'm another ChristinA with an "A". But unlike the other Christina, I only go by Christina--no nicknames permitted!
I say that I'm BRAND new to the corn snake world because I haven't even got my first corn yet. I've loved them ever since I set foot in a reptile room when I was about twelve years old and was introduced to my first hatchlings. Mom, however, refused to give in to the idea of keeping pinkies in the freezer, so I've had to wait until I was out on my own and settled before seriously entertaining the idea. I've been living in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan for the last year now and I think I've finally found somewhere I'd like to stay for an extended period of time, so I'm seriously looking for a new addition to the family.
I should probably mention that the family currently consists of myself and seven furred or scaled members. I have two dogs; a Doberman and a long-haired mini Daschund, two cats; a manx cross male and an orange marble tabby female, a ferret, an albino leopard gecko (which I think is a chocolate variation), and a betta (Siamese fighting fish) named Arnold.
After all the research that I've done (including hours at Petland handling the corns there--not that I'd ever BUY from them) I've decided that what I'd most like is either a lavender corn or a snow corn, more specifically a motley snow with a hurricane pattern. I've been sending countless emails (which I'm sure some of you have noticed ) and I'm looking forward to hearing the replies. If anyone knows of a breeder within driving distance who might be producing those variations and who I've yet to contact, by all means feel free to email!
I've been told already that one corn won't end up being enough and I'm pretty sure that I whole-heartedly agree. But still, you have to start somewhere!
I look forward to getting to know some (or all!) of you better. You can bet I'll be plaguing this site for advice as soon as I choose and get my new baby!
Well I have been on here since the beginning of April, but I didn't know about this thread until this morning. So I will introduce myself to my fellow Canadians.
Name: Yvonne Burnell
Location: Edmonton, Alberta
Age: 32 (Birthday in April)
Family: Myself, my boyfriend Steve, and his daughter Kailey (she is five, will be six in July)
Work: I work for a medical software company, as their Quality Assurance Specialist. I work closely with the development team to make sure that our software is released defect free, and meets all requirements. I also provide all the technical writing, training manuals (there were some before I started, but I am re-vamping everything) and release notes for internal and external clients. I also get to make design suggestions where appropriate.
About Me: I am originally from St. John's, Newfoundland. I moved to Alberta in December of 1997 (a Christmas gift to myself you could say) when I was 22. I lived in Red Deer for 3 years and then moved to Edmonton to teach computers at a college in 2000. I have been and Edmonton Oilers fan since I was 10, so it was really only a matter of time before I would finally live here . I am somewhat of a computer geek. I am relatively athletic. I work out and try to stay in good health and shape. I love animals, all shapes and sizes. My only exception (which probably really isn't an exception) is bugs/arachnids. I am terrified of everything that crawls with more than 4 legs, or flies and buzzes. That is the only thing I am at all 'girly' about. I love to read and learn about new things. I am facinated by celtic, egyptian and greek mythology.
My Corn snake story: I have always loved snakes, and I have wanted to own one since I was a teenage. Lots of my friends back home had boas etc and I was never nervous around them. At the beginning of April, my bf and I stopped by a pet store in the West Edmonton mall and we were looking at snakes (every time I go to a pet store, I make a B-line for the reptile section to see what snakes they have. I usually have to put blinders on when I walk past the tarantula cages ....eeeek). We saw some baby corns, and I was telling my bf they would be good to start with as they are more docile and won't grow to be as large as other species. Out of the blue, he said we should get one! I was astonished. I didn't know it was that easy to get him to do this! We bought Kathy Love's book, and went home and read and read and read. We looked up information on the internet, read forums (this one mostly) and decided that we could do it. We brought Pinky home April 1. I chose him becasue he was so different than the others (it was the stripe that did it for me). I found out later that this was a mutation and I was very happy with my choice. We then drove all over town the next weekend chasing after what we thought was a Caramel, which turned out to be a Ghost. Demi was our second. Then in May, we went to the reptile show here and I had the pleasure of purchasing a gorgeous Amel het caramel stripe from Annette from Wrapped up in Reptiles.
So within a month and a half, we have bought 3 snakes. I want to become a breeder. I have always loved biology (once upon a time I was taking Biochemistry at the university), and genetics is absolutely fascinating to me. When I read about all the possibilites with corn snakes, and saw the beautiful morphs and colours they could be, I knew that this was something I had to persue. So now I am just trying to build my "stock" as you would have it. I want to focus on the striped morph. I love butters, caramel, lavenders. Bloodreds are beautiful, the hypos are facinating as well. Opals astound me. The Abbots Okeetees are just, well awesome. There are too many to name. Basically, my future endeavours with breeding will dictate now the size of house we buy, how big the basement is, and how many bedrooms there are...is that a bad thing?
Conclusion: I am thrilled to be a part of this forum. You all have been so helpful. It is wonderful for me to have such an excellent resource of knowlege, advice and support. I look forward to "doing business" and learning from all of you.
