Bairdi Holdbacks

I'm pleased with my Bairdi to raise up so far. Many of you are familiar with Elizabeth and Nicolas, my adult pair. Below are Isabella and Anthony, their hatchlings, as well as Bethany, an unrelated female to mix into the lines. You can see some progression as the hatchlings are all different ages with Anthony being the oldest and Isabella the youngest. Bairdi start out with black saddles on a grey background over the first couple years lose the saddles and gain color in the background (and take on longitudinal striping if they're going to).

My goal with Bairdis is to select for "high metal", bright orange background, and little to no black longitudinal striping. Of the group so far, Anthony and Elizabeth are the best in the metal and lack of striping departments. Time will tell which of the youngsters has the best background color. Bairdi take time to show their potential, but the wait is worth it to achieve this...

This pair has thrown me numerous males, my favorite is "Anthony".






However, they've only given me a single female, and I'm delighted that she's doing well. Her name is "Isabella".






I picked up this little girl at a show to add some new blood and to see how she'd mature (plus, at the time, I'd gotten no females from Elizabeth x Nicolas). We'll see what she matures into. This is "Bethany".
