he is very sneaky

Ok. I am going to have to change his name.

My new amel I bought was originally called Sugar Ray, because he was so pretty.
But yesterday after our supper, I decided to take out a fuzzy to feed Sugar Ray. Much to my despair, when I opened the terrarium, and searched in his usual hiding spots, there was NO SNAKE!!!

OMG I started to cry. I have a cat that is so curious, I am surprised he hasn't gone through all nine lives yet. All I could think was "The cat at the snake...". But because I was not greeted at the front door by little bits and pieces of snake everywhere, I figured that this probably didn't happen.

We proceeded to tear the house apart. My boyfriend looked under rugs, behind couches, inside couches. I checked vents and drawers etc. No snake. I was in a mad panic.

Then I started to calm down and figured if I am going to find him, I have to think like a snake. Where would I go if I got out of my pen? Not very far because of the watchful eye of that big black beast (..my cat. And to be honest, he must have either been in a coma or in the basement chasing dust balls to not notice the snake out and about). Both pens are side by side. So I checked the second one (don't ask me why, it was a desperation move). Yeah no amel in there. Then I followed the tops of the terrariums across the wall, and beside one terrarium, in the corner of our living room, we have a book shelf that is been built into the wall, almost like a little cubby hole with no door. The bottom shelf is in perfect position for him to slide on over. There were books everywhere on there.

Perfect place for a snake to hide right? Sure enough, there he was. I moved a few books out of the way and there he was buried behind them. He was a little startled. I am not sure if it was the sudden light that shone in his little eyes, or the high pitched squeal/choked cry that came out of me (probably the latter ).

So now we have an old terrarium on top of the one he is in. He must have leveraged himself in such a way to push on the lid, which was "clipped" down, and get enough room to squeeze out. He is not damaged, not that I can see anyway. All scales are intact.

The jist of my story is, instead of Sugar Ray, the little devil is now called Houdini. Not very original, I know, but that's what he will always be to me now.

Just thought I would share .
