Weighing and measuring

Ok I'm trying to figure out how to weigh and measure my corns. I don't want any chances of hurting them and I've tried measuring with a ruler but they really don't like that at all much. I've done it but I'm scared of harming them. I figured I'd ask the experts what they do.

So what about it everyone? Do you use something you already have laying around the house or do you buy something?
