This morning I received a call from a woman in Red Deer who produced her first ever clutch of corns. She purchased a pair of normal corns off a one-time breeder here in Red Deer about two and a half years ago. Earlier this year, she bred the siblings together and a clutch of about 7 or 8 eggs was laid.
On Tuesday, two of the eggs hatched and two normals emerged. One of the normals is not-so-normal. When he was pipping, his head moved around sporadically and appeared uncontrolled. It is now out of the egg and it even ate a frozen/thawed pinky yesterday (Wednesday). I checked it out this afternoon and I am sure that it suffers from stargazing, based on the videos and limited literature I have read. As it crawled around, its head movements appeared uncontrolled, it constantly crawled around on its back, and it ate its meal upside-down.
Three other eggs are pipping right now. The breeder she purchased the corns off of is unknown and the history of her pair is unknown. She mentioned a name to me of another breeder here in Central Alberta who may know of the father of her male (grandfather to the afflicted corn) and I will be following up on that lead.
She is unsure if she will keep this hatchling, or sell it.
I just thought there may be a few people interested to know this.
