Oh YES!!!! The final incubator plug was pulled today. I had one final clutch...well one egg to be exact...still incubating after my 'actual' last clutch hatched last week.
So why am I celebrating? Hey, it's been a long season. First egg pipped way back there in, what was it, May or so...and now it's almost the end of September. Five months of watching egg goo leak out of pipped shells does make one wonder about sanity for sure. Now as they go out the door to find new homes, there won't be anymore to fill the shelves...well for this year anyways...
Oh yes...I remember that Spring thread, the one I whined about 'having to wait' for that first pippie...it seemed endless. Well, this season too has drawn to an 'end' here in the wilds of Northern Ontario. I will say, staggering the clutches certainly helped...I could never have managed if all 41 clutches had arrived within a shorter period. I think Jeff would have divorced me for sure! And my kids...well they are so acclimatized to phoning and finding me 'in the snake room, where else', they'll be happy to know that sooooon, very soooon, I'll actually be a real person again who can talk about something other than feeding schedules for fresh shed babies and who's ready to find a new home...
Yup...as exciting as the start of pipping season can be...feel that adrenalin flow... , it's a different kind of 'high' when you get to pull that incubator plug... ...you get to realize yet again, another cycle has ended. You can envision life without hatchlings...
The 'highs' and 'lows' of breeding, the 'what if's' and 'what can be'...all put on the shelf till next year.
Now it's off to ready myself for the Winnipeg show...that part of the season is still in full swing...
Awwww, snake hobbyist's ramblings...did I hear the word 'crazy'!!!!
