Substrate questions

Well, it's been a while since I have posted here. This can only mean that all is well with the snake, and indeed it is! He has grown quite a bit (almost two feet now) and eats fuzzies, large fuzzies.

A while back I changed substrate from Cage Carpet to real aspen shavings. I had trouble imagining how this would be easier but, surprise, it is! Clean-up is a snap and the snake really does love it. Now for some questions.

Do aspen shavings act as an insulator?

When should you entirely change the shavings?

I hope that all is well with everyone else here and their snakes. Talk to you all soon.
