I recently purchased a pair of snakes, which I've pretty much left alone since they've been here (I tend to leave hatchlings alone and around 6 months or so I start handling them regularly, don't ask me why, that's just what I do) anyhow, I had them out yesterday for feeding, I held the female and as I felt her slither through my hand I felt something odd, I ran my fingers along her body............. kink........ a kink was found about 3/4's the way down her body.
I contacted the breeder and they have since sent back a full refund for the female and I have actually already purchased a replacement for the project with that money. (I am quite pleased with the manner in which this breeder handled the situation, thus they will get alot of buisness from me in the future)
Now my question is... what do I do with this animal? I asked the breeder, they said keep it or freeze it, doesn't matter.
Well, I kinda am attached to all of my snakes, thus I was quite saddened for her that I found the kink, I cannot make myself throw her the way of the freezer. She currently eats fine and passes poop fine.
My question is this, does anyone know the long term prognosis of a kinked snake? Will she ultimately have problems later down the line passing her food? Or can she live a long happy life as a "Pet".
I ask this as I can give her to my brother in law, he has no pets (well... he has a rabbit) and she would live a happy life as a pet snake, BUT if down the line she will suffer from this defect... I would rather put her down.
