Breeding #1 and 2: My most exciting breeding pair this year
Thanks to the generosity of a fellow Canadian breeder, I have the opportunity to produce some wonderful combinations with these pairings. As always, it's nice to see Canadian breeders working together to enhance our cornsnake market here. I couldn't be more ecstatic about this opportunity and the potential outcomes of these pairings
Ruth's Ramses: Caramel het hypo, highly suspected het Ultra:
( pics are Ruth's)
proving himself already this year ( this is Ruth's pairing)
and his mates for when he comes to my house in a week from now
Thanks Joni, I hope so too. Last year the amber laid a load of slugs
She's one of those long skinny snakes. I've been trying and trying to fatten her up. But she doesn't want to put a lot of weight on. We shall see. I'll be happy with any fertile eggies from her.
Good luck with those planned breedings - will be some interesting results - have fun sorting out the babies from the amber if it turns out Ramses is het for both ultra and hypo!

Thanks Caroline, I hope so too. Last year she was not bred, but laid anyways and I was very concerned with her weight drop. But I've gotten her up to what I consider a bit above minimum breeding size now, so I will take my chances. She had no issues passing the slugs, and I had not put a lay box with her as I did not know she was gravid. I just found slugs all over her container then I put a lay box in and she passed more.
Mary: Yes indeedy, it sure will be fun.... confusing, frustrating, but still fun
Honestly, I put him in with the amel last night, checked briefly this morning, and haven't been back since. We have the in-laws over helping finish the main part of the basement, so I haven't been down there since this morning.
Pics to come later on. I haven't caught them mating at all, and of course, he's in a viv with aspen, so I don't know if I'll actually see the "evidence" or not. I'll leave him there for a couple days, move him to a feeding bin, see if he'll eat or not. Let my amber get a couple more good feeds, and a shed if possible before I introduce him to her.
He's gonna be busy That aside, he is a wonderful snake. Mark said "eewwww". ( he didn't like the colour). But I told Ramses to ignore him LOL. His temperment is wonderful
Frustrating. My amel shed about a week ago, and still does not look overrly gravid. So I thought what the heck, put Ramses back in with her. No word of a lie, within seconds he was twitching and pulsing and popping out a hemipene. Within a minute, they were locked up. This was her second shed since coming out of brumation. ( Prior to this, I had not seen them mate.. I ASSUMED)
Breeding #2 Amber x Ramses
No go so far. Ramses is a man that knows what he's doing. Put him in with a female who is not ready at all and he ignores her. No twitches, nada. Amber shed earlier in the week. I'm going to use my borrowed "fertile female sniffer outter" Ramses, to check her out again on the weekend.
