Our 'Jack in the Box'...Quinn

Do you remember the childhood toy, Jack in the Box, or am I dating myself here? You know, the colourful small box, with the handle on the side. You wound it up, it played some song, "Pop goes the Weasel", and then when you least expected it, the top popped open and up jumped the clown puppet.

Well, Quinn, our '05 Candy Cane, the other half of the pair from Simon's last breeding here in Canada, is our "Jack". Quinn's a burrower, and I'm sure if I provided him with a foot of aspen in his tub, he'd still go to the very bottom.

Feeding days are fun with Quinn. You just have to be prepared! Moving his aspen is like winding up the 'box'...you just never know when you are going to see the 'red and white' clown bolt upright from the substrate...but unlike the toy...he's not attached, so he will just keep going. After a few little chases around the snake room, I've learned my lesson...he gets the tallest tub in the snake room. At least that gives me a few extra seconds before he can get over the side.

As for colouration, he seems to have picked up a little yellow in the head and throat area. He is not as stark white as Echo, his eventual partner, but I'm sure with some selection among any hatchlings these two may produce, I'll be able to weed out that yellow thru time.

Here's Jack....Quinn....

I remember Jack in the Boxes from when I was a kid!! That is too funny...I have one or two snakes that like to do the same thing.

I certainly remember Jack-In-The-Box toys. Quinn sure is a beautiful Candy Cane. The second photo of him is my favorite. Love his pose!

He's looking good Ruth. Both are, actually.
I am certainly not disappointed in these guys whatsoever. Very little colour through the white in all 3 of this batch ( my one, and your two). Simon's candycanes definately show how much he loved this morph. I'm excited for when this lil girl is ready to breed, as I have the adult male OCC already. I will try to get more recent pics of Quinn's sibling. She's still "feisty" but I noticed the male is too. Are yours a little moody? Nippy?

I agree with you 100% about Simon and his Candy Canes. You know when he first offered to bring them to me, my intention was to sell them. He talked me out of it by saying that if he ever decided to come back to Canada he expected to come to me to get some Candies; and now I'm so happy he did. They have truly turned out stunning in colouration.

Echo is so 'laid back' in temperment; and although Quinn is darty and very seldom offers to slither out of his tub when the lid is off, he isn't really feisty by nature. Within about 5 minutes of being handled he settles and quite enjoys exploring the outside environment of the snake room.

I'd love to see pictures of the OCC female. She was so beautiful as a hatchling but such a little ninny when it came to food...if it doesn't move she wouldn't eat it. Only your great patience converted her to f/t. I remember that day you came to pick her up...and you wanted me to take the OCC male and I talked you out of it...hmmm, history repeating itself... I'm glad you have the OCC's to go along with my RCC's. We are both very fortunate.

Ruth

And finally, I grabbed a pic of the little devil.

She is starting to calm down now... not much, but a little is better than nothing.

Yep, I am certainly thankful I was talked out of selling my male. These guys will make wonderful babies someday.

She is looking wonderful Chris. Thanks for posting the pic here. She's really 'whitened' up'.

Oh I remember that look very well! She still thinks she's queen of the castle!!!

RCCs and OCCs...I know Simon would be so proud of how these have turned out.

Ruth
