Ever since I got my first corn from a reptile store and read Don Soderberg's book on corn snakes, I've been paranoid about mites. I've studied my snake and her water bowl over and over again, wondering if she had mites. (I've had nothing to lead me to believe she had them, just paranoid) I even purchased the "Provent-a-mite" just in case.
Well today, at our local Petsmart, we were checking out the corn snakes and NOW I know what mites look like. It was covered in mites. I saw about 4 of them around it's one eye and one of them was crawling around. Poor thing! I also saw a couple in it's water bowl.
I told the manager that the corn snake has mites and he thanked me and said he will treat it today. What the heck? I'm just a newbie and had never before seen mites, and could tell it was infested.
Anyway, thankfully, now I know my first snake does not have mites. But you can be sure I'll never buy snakes from Petco!
