I don't think the title suits this, but I do not know what else to title it.
I've talked to people who think they are the worst owners possible, and get very depressed over a mistake they've made with their snakes ( causing death/or bodily injury). Truth be told, I've made much worse mistakes.
I would like to hear your snake mistakes. I think it will help the new owner who loses a snake, realise even "breeders" or more experienced owners go through it.
- Mistake #1: not checking water enough. I killed a snake through dehydration. He had dumped his water, it was absorbed into the newspaper, and I was not able to check for 10 days
- Lost snakes: so far I've had 3 that I would class as lost ( not including escapes found the same day). Lost snakes were due to a very crappy container, allowing them to escape. 2 snakes were found ( 6-8wks later) 1 never was. ( we think he got into the heating ducts, and when the furnace came on.........)
- Feeding too soon after regurge, cost me my very first cornsnake. I waited 5 days, he regurged again. Waiting another 5 days, regurged again.... died shortly after.
- Lost but found snakes: I put a snake in a container with no lid, to weigh. The doorbell rang, completely forgetting the snake, I ran for the door. It was a friend and I was away from the snake room for a couple hours. Lost snake. But I did find him ( my "now" snakeroom, is fully secure. They can be lost, but NOT get out of that room).
There's more I'm sure, but those are the main ones.
I didn't start this thread to make anyone feel bad, on the contrary, to make new owners feel better knowing that they are not the only ones who have made a mistake/accident/etc.
