He had some trouble b/c she has a scar (I assume from one or more bad sheds) around her tail & he kept trying to enter there instead of up where he should be.

I don't think the male cali was giving the female corn "love bites"; her whole head was in his mouth, snout first & it was a quick snatch, not a gentle(ish) grab like he did with the female cali's neck.

Congradulations, one interesting thing about the cross, is that amel is allelic in corns and cal kings, so if they were both het for amel, you could get amel jungles.

As far as I know no amel in there. Mom is a striped cali who could be het b/c she was a freebie whose owner didn't even know if it was male or female & dad is a crimson het lavender from Joe Pierce (it's "Whirlpool" for those who remember that story)

Apparently Weston and I got really lucky this year. We bred our male albino cal king to one of our giant amel corns.......my main problem was that I never thought that they were interested in each other, but we just had 15 good eggs laid so I was wrong. However, I would send a hint to others, it is probably a good idea to use a female king not only b/c of aggression but also b/c the eggs are much larger than normal corn eggs. If we had used a smaller female then there could have been a possibility of egg binding.

hi i bred to clutchs of jungle corns this year it is normal for the male king to grab the neck of the female
my albino clutch was all slug
but my normal male cali to normale corn laid six good eggs it was the frist time these snakes had bred to anything and i was lucky (both were hets) 4 albino's two normal

One way to do this is to take a sweater box and drill/cut out two holes in the bottom just large enough for your breeders to fit through. Now, from the underside of the sweater box allow a female corn to crawl in head first. But hold on to her tail so only half her body is in the sweater box and her back end hanging out the hole. Now place the tail end of the cal king female through the other hole. Now place your male corn in the sweater box. He will think he's mating with the corn he smells but only the kings tail is available to him.
The hard part is keeping the females under control. But it can be done

Oh btw, once the male locks-up with king you can remove the female corn. The male corn will continue to breed the king. Since corn males are fairly quick breeders this whole process normally doesn't take to long. This method doesn't work however if you use a male king with a female corn because male kings take forever to breed.
