I have a pair of cali kings and a proven F okeetee that doesn't really have a mate this year. I have been trying to pair her with the male cali.
Attempt 1 was just putting them together...nothing happened.
Attempt 2 was just putting them together. She flirted & flirted & flirted then got her head chomped...twice. I had to put them under water to get him to let go.
Attempt 3 was putting the female cali with a male corn--he got his head chomped & she actually started constricting him...Put under water & made mental note to be sure kings were fed before next attempt.
Attempt #4 was putting both calis together & trying to stick the corns tail in the right place at the right time. He was all for that idea but the corn would not let him in!
I've tried putting all 3 together crossing my fingers that no kings would do any chomping. Mr cali ws very interested in Mrs cali but if I pulled her out, the interest did not carry over to mrs corn.
Am thinking that I am nearing or maybe passed the corns "window of opportunity". Should I try something new or just stick her with a corn & try for jungles again next year?
Then what male do I choose? Lavender het motley, Amel stripey motley het caramel, diffused het amel, crimson het lavender or undersized but nice looking classic?
If you decide to breed to a corn, I would breed to the undersized classic, I had a 100 g lav mot tag an adult 500g female a couple times this year.
About hybrids, it is tuff, I have never done it personally, but I believe it is better to go male corn to female king, something about male kings having spurs on their hemipenis that could hurt the corn. I have also heard a good way to do this is tape (with electrical tape) a 35 mm film canister over the head of the female king. Just make sure there is a hole for air.

Ha! I'm going to try that... I've also read that it is easier to breed a male corn to the female king, and that you should place a female corn shed in the tub... I'll try my experiments next year, so let us know if there is any success...

It might be just me, but personally, this sounds dangerous.... How would you get the film container to stay on the snake without taping it to the snake? I dunno.
Anyways, hopefully Annette will respond to this, as she has produced jungles...
I think you do tape it to the snake--electrical tape should come off pretty easily. I was trying to come up with a way to make a muzzle That one sounds pretty good. i was thinking just tape the mouth shut or use gauze or pantyhose or something.
Panythose on something without legs is just comical to me. But I've been thinking about trying to make F1 jungles and even if the king could bite through the nylon, he couldn't swallow the corn (hopefully). It would make a great strainer!

I will let you all know if I have any luck.

I will preface this by saying I have not produced jungle corns from corn to king breeding, but wanted to mention a few things you might keep in mind based on breeding cal kings. For cal kings it is normal for the male to grip the head or neck of the female during breeding - especially if he is not confident that he can subdue her with his body weight and actions alone. The male will grip the female and cal king females will then stop movement and permit breeding - the male will not proceed to constriction when he is predominately interested in breeding but they should be watched closely (even if with a female king). If your male cal king was not consticting this may have been your best chance at a breeding.

The corn may have been too nervous with the overwhelming scent of cal king from the pair and this combined with a disruptive experience the previous time (if the male cal had tried to constrict her then), so she might still be receptive - just was clamped down due to nerves.

You might try housing the female corn for 24 hours in a tub used by the female cal king - especially if the female cal king has just shed and the shed remains in the tub. If the male cal king is put with the female cal king first to get him worked up, then with the female corn that carries the scent of female cal king, he may be tricked.

I would likely choose the diffused het amel - but just my preference - the het diffused is likely more marketable than the other options if you don't have a nice Okeetee to breed to her.

I bred jungles a few years ago using a male corn and a female calking... I put them into a bin togther and got a female corn snake, I actually held her, never letting much of her into the bin, but let the male corn smell her...mostly her tail end.. It took a little while but once he got excited enough he started wrapping his tail around anything.... and that meant the calking because she was the only tail there.
The second attempt I made I actually put the male corn and female corn and female calking in the same tank and just made sure that when the male started wrapping his tail it was the calking and not the corn.
I have never tried it the other way, but have heard it may cause issues because calkings stay hooked up WAY longer than corns... I have heard of the female corn getting bored and trying to get away, possibly damaging the male.
We had success! I had a very POd mrs cali but with a cute muzzle & a LOT of perseverance on mr corn's part, we got a hook up. The only issue may be that I had already bred mrs cali to mr cali about a week ago, so don't know if any corn swimmers will find their mark.
I will show pics later, but basically I took a piece of paper towel tubing & made it into a cone shape with a bit of a hole at the tip & used electrical tape to tape it on. She really didn't appreciate it, but neither me or my corn got bit (she's not terribly tame). I let a female corn run around in there with them & after many many times trying to get the cali (b/c I wouldn't let the corn tail any where nears his) I finally took the corn out & he wooed her with his cornly ways. He had some trouble b/c she has a scar (I assume from one or more bad sheds) around her tail & he kept trying to enter there instead of up where he should be.
I don't think the male cali was giving the female corn "love bites"; her whole head was in his mouth, snout first & it was a quick snatch, not a gentle(ish) grab like he did with the female cali's neck.
Congrats! I may have to try the muzzle. I've also heard to make sure the kings are stuffed to the gills with food so they won't be thinking about it. I think I'll try both. A muzzle on a snake, how funny!
