Last Clutch of the Season!

Garter snakes are what got me into this insane world of snakes and breeding and the first "pair" I bought with the intention of breeding were Eastern Blackneck Garters. Well they turned out not to be a pair and I had terrible luck with trying to get a male. The one I bought as a hatchling the following year escaped. Then I bought a pair of adult males that turned out to be a pair of females! Finally I traded for a male and this year tried to put him with my 3 girls. Well he hid from 2 of them since they were twice to 3 times his size! Finally he mated with my smallest girl. Finally 125 days after I witnessed him being dragged around the tank by his hemipene I came home from work to find these little wonders!

Awesome snakes! I don't know anything about garter snakes, but if they are even remotely as colorful as those, then maybe I need to start learning.

And for all the "relationship" comments, don't you guys know that only the really good women make you work for it? Gosh! We are not going to make it easy for you! I mean come on. She obviously got what she wanted...and he just wanted to cuddle...She was like, nope, I got laundry to do. And bills to pay. If you want to hang around fine, but make yourself useful!

LOL. Sorry. But that's just too funny.

On a more serious note, are garters usually docile like corns?

Garters can be a bit more flighty than corns and since mice are not typical of their diet they can get to be finicky eaters at times. When mine go off pinks/mice I scent with fish or even give them some live feeder fish and usually that gets them back on track. They are diurnal so they are out more often than corns and in a way I find them more "social" than corns.

In Kate's Daytona's photos there are a few garter shots that are quite lovely. I bet those are Scott Felzer's snakes. He has some beautiful snakes and very interesting morph's.
