Howdy from Canada

Howdy from a new Canadian member from MTL area in Québec. I've been away from forums for awhile, so I'll be doing more reading than writing.

Cheers

Jean welcome to the source!

I saw a few post of yours elsewhere that were interesting. We need somebody like you!

Now that we have you here, how about some photos and an update on your mystery hypo. They sure looked different to me. Have you done any test?

Thanks for the welcome.

Yes Joe, I have. They've no longer been "mysterious" to me for a couple of years now, I just haven't been on the forums. As far as heredity goes, the results have been consistent with Mendelian genetics, the mutant allele being recessive to the wild type, and non allelic to everything I've tried so far.

Here it is on a banded motley (well, from a banded motley line). I'll post another pic when she starts to colour up.

My female banded motley, I believe she may be carrying the dilute gene (not the mother of the above snake).

Two anery siblings from this female.

I have been referring to your hypo as the “Milky” hypo here. They do resemble the Dilutes, but the colors are not quite the same. I am not sure if I would say that your “Milky” Anery is a Dilute Anery. They have a different look to them, but seem to have the same effects.

Your normal phase of the “Milks” was always the most interesting to me. Rob Stevens produce a Normal phase Dilute this year and it does look a lot like your.

What test have you done and do you have plans to test them to the Dilutes?

Hi Joe,

I am not sure if I would say that your “Milky” Anery is a Dilute Anery.
if you are referring to the animal on the above pic, it's not the same mutation (what you call milky). This female has proved not to be het. I believe this may be the same dilute as Rob's, or simply a different form of dilute. I believe there may be different forms of the dilute, and I'm glad to hear Rob managed to isolate one and demonstrate that it isn't dependent of anery.

I did not plan to test it against dilute, I haven't seen Robs normal dilute yet. Last time I saw his anery dilutes, they didn't look like what I have, but you never know. As far as what I have here, the results with anery have been consistent- not linked.

The single homozygous form is completely independent from anery. I am convinced it's not even in the same biochemical pathway. From what I know, Rob's dilutes have proved to be difficult to separate from anerythrism. This could indicate that rob's dilute is on the same chromosome as anery - even if it is not the same gene. I always thought dilute was a descriptive name for the animals I have, but since the name was already used, I've been using "True ghost" in my personal records (tg allele).
