Hello!

Hi all, I'm Jamie from Maine. I've wanted a snake since I was a kid, but my father is deathly afraid, and I don't think anyone would have taken too kindly to mice in the freezer. I haven't lived at home for years, and it only just NOW clicked that its my freezer, and I can put dead mice in it if I want. I wish I'd realized I have the option to get a snake sooner! I still have a lot of research to do, and this site seems invaluable.

I do have one burning question that I haven't seen brought up yet, but I'll take that over to general discussions.

Thanks!

Welcome Jamie.......you have come to a great place to learn make friends. Don't worry for lost time over the years, you can/will make that up pretty quick after getting your 1st (or 1st, 2nd & 3rd) Corn snake. :

Enjoy your stay, and post up some pics when the time arrives.......I have the feeling it won't be too long.

Welcome to the Source. The Maine Herp Society is a great group and they also hold a nice little show in Portland at the end of August.

Thanks for the welcome! I'm going to see if I can hold out until late August and get my first snake from the show, but I seriously doubt I'll be able to wait that long. I'll be surprised if I last a month... =)

Well if you can't hold out I am in MA and I know of some good breeders in Maine. I am not sure how much anyone will have now.

Yeah !! More female snake lovers! Hey... Now that I think about it, there just might be more women than men here. Hmm there has to be stats out there somewhere but heck - Nice to have you hear. I can't wait to see what your "1st" snake will be.

The real reason I decided to reduce my focus on kings and get into Corn Snakes ...

I was shocked too to see how many females were posting here. I figured most would think snakes were slimy and icky, I'm glad to see I was wrong! I am going to wait until the show in Portland, it'll be tough though. I'm kind of eyeing ball pythons (I hope thats not a sin to say here), I like the thick body and head shape... but the Abbott's Okeetee is so beautifully colored! This must be why people never say they have "a snake." They say "snakes" - always pluralized. I'll make a mature decision eventually! =)
