Rest in Peace, Godfather

It's been said that "tragedies happen in threes", but man, I'm sick of reading the obits lately. First, Peter Boyle. Then, Joe Barbera.

And now, The Hardest Working Man In Show Business has died.

Yes, he's been parodied by many, most notably Eddie Murphy; his income tax troubles were on a par with Willie Nelson, and by some accounts, he abused the women in his life.

But above all else, James Brown was a showman. In that, he may have been head and shoulders above all else.

When Louis Armstrong died, bebop trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie paid tribute by simply saying, "No him......no me." I think Prince, Michael Jackson, and a few others may very well have to say the same thing regarding James Brown's influence on their work.

Please, please, please bear with me - I'm talking about the souls of mortal men and women here, we sex machines who, thanks to his music, can get up (get on up), and dance, saying "I Feel Good".

Thank you, James, for showing us Soul, for showing your soul, so that we may see ours.

Owwwwww. Heh! Haaaaayyyyyyyyy!
