I am always looking for new places to go and check out for hiking, photography and wildlife viewing.
Mike had told me about this place in St Pete called Boyd Hill a few times and how he had always stumbled across snakes while there. So this past saturday I decided to hook up with him and go check it out. Being January - we didn't really expect to find much - but it turned into a pretty awesome day!
Considering this park is smack dab in the center of suburban St Pete, I was amazed at how big it is - tons of hiking trails available with different landscapes and habitats. I can see why it would be an ideal place to find snakes.
It was a beautiful day - about 75 - and even the butterflies were out!
Early on in our trek, we spotted quite a few ospreys perched in dead trees or flying overhead.
At one point, they all started screaming simultaneously and at first we couldn't figure out why - then we spotted these two flying in (excuse the poor quality - I was not prepared for these shots at all):
I know we have eagles here, but I don't see them very often so it is always a treat when I do and an even bigger bonus to be able to get a few hurried pics!
More photos next post....
