This is only my third year breeding since I was a teen.
First year - 2006 - I bought a female king in August - she had already bred for the guy I bought her from, but I threw her in with my male to see what would happen - and I had hatchlings coming out end of November / beginning of December.
Second year - 2007 - three female cal kings of breeding size. Two shed and bred, refusing to breed before they shed. The third did not breed.
Third year - this year - two shed and bred. The third never gave me a post brumation shed, but she looked swollen so I put her in with the male, and she allowed him to do his thing. This is the same female I bought in 2006 that did give me a post brumation shed last year before breeding.
She still has not shed since brumating, has stopped accepting food, and looks extremely gravid. She shows no signs of going into shed, so it appears her first shed of the season will be her pre-lay shed.
How many of you have experienced females that did not shed post brumation until their pre-lay shed?
I'm curious about N.A. Colubrids primarily.
