Veternary workers. Question regarding a sick cat.

I've got a female cat who has had a problem with urinary tract bleeding. She spends alot of time in and out of the litter box in the morning and then again around dusk. She's not peeing and when she comes out, she leaves a drop of blood. Rarely it's bright red, but usually the color reminds me of tomato soup. (sorry if I just ruined your lunch) Our vet says her PH levels are high and causing crystals to form in her urine causing the irritation. He's got her on a special food to lower her PH. The problem goes away for a few days, but continues to return along with the ever rising vet bills.

Was wondering if anyone here has encountered this and had positive results that might help.

Thanx in advance--Danny
