Golden Corn

I was vending at a show this past weekend, and I had someone come up and offer me this corn. Said that she was 3 years old, and they weren't able to keep her anymore. When I opened the container, this is what I found:

The first thing that came to mind was "That ain't no corn", but then I remembered this thread: http://www.cornsnakes.com/forums/sho...ht=Golden+Corn and I thought to myself, "wonder if this is the same kind of thing?" So I figured I would post it on here and see what people had to say.

I don't care, you don't have to be gentle. The first thought that came to mind with this was Emory Cross.

I saw this snake first-hand and it is VERY different looking. It almost looked like possible miami influence but the colors where very "weird" looking. Whatever it is, it is very nice and seems like it would make a good project girl. Congrats again Paul.....she is another excellent pick-up that fell into your hands.

She does look to have emoryi influence. I would breed her to an amel the first year. If you get any amel babies, you can pretty much assume she is a hybrid/intergrade of some kind. If you do not get amel babies, then good luck figuring out what she is. I personally do not have the patience for that. I would drive myself crazy trying to speed up the process. Anyway, good find.

Thanks Mike. I was trying to figure out what I should breed her to first. I dont' know if she has been brumated at all, so I don't know how well she will breed this year, but will try and pair her up with my Male Amel Stripe, and see what I get. And don't worry, they will all be labeled with possible Emory cross.

Thanks Galen. I appreciate it. And, you wouldn't believe what else I came home with. but don't have pictures of him yet, so will wait till then (no it wasn't the grey bands).

Certainly looks a lot like my emoryi/corn crosses - these are some pics for comparison - but I have also seen photos of pure emoryi that look similar to your girl.

The suggestion to breed to an amel is a good one - many rootbeer are offshoots of creamsicle projects, so good chance she is het amel if she is one.

Congrats on the new addition - I would love to have a girl like her,

mary v.

Thanks for the pics Mary. My girl does look a lot like yours. I will let you know what comes of the amel pairing. Not that I have anything against Emory's, but if she proves out to be one, I will probably sell her off as I don't have many plans for hybrid projects at this time. But she is a beauty and a great snake to handle.

If she's pure anything, I bet it'll be pure e. g. meahllmorum. They're quite common in most parts of Texas, and it wouldn't surprise me if someone bred wild-caught parents to produce this one. I know mine can certainly look "golden" at times:

Good luck determining what she is.
