Lil Update

Hey guys... time for my monthly picture torture and update.

Everyone's doing great... I'm gonna wait a few more months of taking pictures to actually start a progression thread on everyone... perhaps Raver has enough but seriously not anywhere close to the quality I'd like him to have.

Anyway...

Here's my 24 grams of Ghost from Joni Garcia...

Sparks is first because he's been a little brat lately. He's being kept in a Kritter Keeper at the moment as I locate a larger tank for him, and unfortunately while feeding one time the mini-lid snapped open (I just usually take the whole top off during feeding so I don't bother with the little lid) and one night he decided to make his getaway.

I didn't worry too much since all of the corns I've ever had escape are always pretty close by no matter HOW much you tear up the rooms looking for them, and since we have no vents (whoo hoo for under-floor heating) or cats, and all of the potential danger spots were covered, I could afford to be patient.

A week goes by, and I come home one day to my boyfriend offering me "good news and bad news".
Apparently two of our other snakes had gotten out during the day. HOW is completely beyond me, because I went over their cages inch by inch and haven't a clue as to how they could have done it. Regardless, I duct taped their lids on.
Then the good news. He found Dragon, our Ultramel, in the closet...
And Naga, our striped, in the comforter.
And... lastly... our prodigal son Sparks in the water heater room.
So everyone safe and sound and thoroughly grounded.
I took pictures and weighed everyone yesterday.
Dragon, female Ultramel I got from The Snake House (www.tmsnakehouse.com). She's hit almost 150 grams this month.

Eva, our Blizzard from SMR. She's just hit 45 grams.

Hando, our Bloodred from Joni Garcia. He's a whopping 140 grams here.

Little Naga... who's becoming one of my fast favorites... she does the most adorable "up periscope" impression from her aspen. She's a stripe from Joni Garcia, already 31 grams.

Then there's always Onyx, the hissybitch and mascot for my website. It takes a lot of guts to try picking her up, but it happens whether she likes it or not . She's from an expo in Michigan from an unknown and rather shoddy breeder (they all kinda were, it was a small expo), but I thought she was neat and cheap so here she is at 20 grams of cute evil.

Ah Raver-boy, my first corn from a petstore back in '07 and always my sentimental favorite. So laid back and at the same time lookin like a party! He might not be a sunglow but he's still my sunshine. He's 145 grams, has his eyes on Dragon and hasn't taken them off since she showed up!

Lil Stormy, my petite, ladylike Lavender from Joni unfortunately hasn't grown much despite having a perfectly healthy appetite. She's at 17 grams... only two grams heavier than last month. Still a cute little thing but may earn herself an extra heavy diet at the rate she's going.

Mr. Satan is my normal wide-stripe I bought from a petstore who claimed to breed cornsnakes but did not know how to sex him. He's very adventurous but fancies himself a cave dweller, preferring his stack of rocks over toilet-paper tube rolls and other hides. He eats under there too, always snagging his victim and pulling it in before munching away. He's a hefty 37 grams.

Bob is doing great, but is blatantly informing us that he needs a bigger hide. Our argument is that he NEVER uses it except when he's showing off getting bigger, but he'll be getting his way.

The five mice we have been attempting to breed had babies today. Well... two of them did... two I hadn't realized were even pregnant. We've been keeping our eyes on the big grey one who looked like she swallowed a golf ball, but no.... she still looks that way and we've got little squeaks coming from underneath the nesting material. I guess our brown one had a few babies but they had been set upon and eaten before my boyfriend had checked on them. Our black one, however, has herself a nice brood. John and I are staying away from them for at least 24 hours, fingers crossed that they make it. Anyone have any suggestions? These are our first litters of mice to offset the toll we take on the lady down the street who breeds them (and who is visited by just about every snake owner in the area), and though we've done a lot of research we still don't know why the first litter was eaten. John says he's sure it was small, and since she didn't look pregnant could they have been premature and thus all runts?
Oops... sorry for trailing off of corns. The website design and navigation for www.onyxexotics.com is completed, and the content is still being worked on so so far none of the menu links work. Is it girly or what? Such a sucker for black and blue... now if only we made cornsnakes those colors... and eventually Onyx will be making an appearance in the design... just not sure where...
Eventually I will have place holders for pictures... soon I will be asking around who would like to donate their photos to the gallery... I really don't have the greatest photographic ability and of course all will have credit.

Thanks ya'll for reading!
