Citrus (female) x Sunny D

Citrus, my female, was sold to me as an amel stripe by SMR. But Don agrees I hit the jackpot in Citrus. What little stripe she had faded quickly into a patternless orange and yellow...but what sets her apart is the infusion of very many golden flecks on every scale. In late afternoon sunlight she turns an amazing blazing gold--that's her in my avatar and banner. Some people consider her to be the most beautiful corn in my collection. Don lost both the male and female that made her or he would be doing his best to make another one.
Last year Citrus slugged out on me because the previous winter the male was not brumated, but was put on the lower shelf in the rack to stay cooler, then I felt sorry for him and rigged him up some belly heat--which he curled up on all winter long and cooked all his sperm. The male is Sunny D, whose sire was the beautiful striped sunglow pictured on Don's website. His striping was more visible as a youngster, now at three years old, that has mostly all faded and he is a nearly uniform dark orange red. Although the archetypical striped sunglow is a patternless deep orange-red, I am hoping to recover the brilliant overall gold flecking and eventually perfect a line of two-tone red/yellow with Citrus's golden undertones. But whatever nuance of red these babies turn out to be, I think they will be very nice.
