I am currently using a Canon EOS 400D DSLR 10.1 megapixel also and am very happy with it. I really like all those pixels because I can shoot the picture a little bigger than I need and crop it down to get the best composition without greatly sacrificing picture quality.
I'm using a Sony DCS-P71 and I HATE it! It doesn't capture true color! That's exactly what I'm trying to do, catch the true color, and it doesn't work. And it has focusing problems (or maybe that's just me). But if I take 30 pictures of the same thing, one or two will turn out ok. It so frustrating!
I am going to be getting a new camera in a couple of months, so this thread is very helpful!
I'm using the Canon EOS 20D and I really like it. It takes great pics but I think I need to get a macro lens to really get the great close up pics that some people have posted. I think my lens is 28 - 80mm. Of course it could just be my lack of photography experience .
I have a Casio Exilim Z1000 and I really couldn't ask for a better camera in the price range. Takes fantastic photos, 10.1 mega pixels, and is great for taking videos as well. It has a huge screen and pretty good zoom. The display looks blurry when you zoom in on something a lot, but once the photo is snapped, it's nice and focused (for the most part) Only cost me about $240.

Yeah a lens makes all the difference! But it's really hard to choose one, i believe Canon allready has about 30 normal lenses and about 20 professional ones..
I'm thinking about buying a 100mm f2.8 Canon lens and i want another, better telezoomlens ( i already have a 50-200 f4,5-5,6 (?)..
It's really difficult to choose between brands too, Sigma and Tamron have great lenses aswell..
I'm thinking about buying a Macro-lens, how is the Sigma?
Arjan
I like the lens. I use it mainly for photographing butterflies/dragonflies so that I don't have to sneak up so close to them and scare them away. It gets a pretty good DOF. The only thing it doesn't have is Image Stabilization which if you have the money is really the way to go. But if you have a tripod, the Sigma lens works just fine. I have practiced with it enough that most of the time I am ok without the tripod now too.
