--- Many of you have seen this post elsewhere. It being breeding season I thought I'd repost it here .--- I've tried many different things to line the bottoms of deli cups for hatchlings. I found this Compass Cutter tool and it gave me a great idea. I sat down with several layers of news paper and cut out 4" circles that fit right in the bottom of an 8 oz. deli cup. I can cut out about 100 circles in about 5 minutes. You can adjust the size of the circle you're cutting out to be as big as 6" or as little as 1". News paper is a little thin so I usually use 2 or 3 layers. I found mine in a hobby shop and I've seen them in craft stores too. The link above is one I found online and I'm sure there are more sites selling them if you do a search. This worked great for me and I just wanted to pass it on.
Awesome idea, Vinny! I always dread having to sit down and cut out dozens upon dozens of newspaper or paper towel liners for my deli cups. I'm going to go out and buy one of those within the next month. It'll save me hours of time.
What a great idea Vinny. I've been using Aspen in my show delis, but this is a much easier way. I think I'll substitute the newspaper for a couple of layers of heavy paper toweling in the bottom of the deli cups. Will stop those little ones from burrowing underneath the aspen at shows and having the folks ask me "What's in there?"
I'll just take along some empty delis filled with these 'rounds' for doing quick changes as needed.
Terrific idea! Thanks for sharing. I've always used the sani-chips instead of paper because it was too time consuming to cut the liners...but they bury in the shavings....I might give this a try at my next show.
I just use napkins in gladware square containers for my hatchlings at home (bigger, lids stand up a lot longer), but that is a great idea for liners at shows. Good thread!
I've never done a show so I'm not an expert in that area. Could you use this tool to cut circles out of some type of thick white paper to put in the deli cups just for display purposes?
great idea, thanks! But for me, when I do a show, it's always been aspen, though two years ago I used, gosh, I can't think of the name, but the white shredded stuff that shows off snakes best. I only put a thin layer on the bottom of the deli cup so they really can't burrow. Putting a liner like that still allows them to hide underneath. But anyhow, great idea, thanks for sharing.

I agree. I use napkins in my hatchling racks and because they are square the napkins are a perfect fit...but...at shows....if I need a few deli's in addition to my big aspen displays this little circle cutting thing might be a nice acquisition. Plus, it is nice to have the little deli's on a table as some customers think you are over priced with only the professional looking displays.
