Here's another update! hard to believe the oldest, the one with the yellow fuzz, is two weeks old tommorow! Man talk about change! It always amazes me how quick they grow up. Seems just yesterday I put the nest box up for them. In four or five days I'll pull them for handfeeding. Enjoy the updated pics.
There are four that I'm handfeeding as of now. The old pair has two albinos in their nest. They seemed to have this trouble with feeding those babies, as they lost the youngest that had hatched, and now just have two left that I know aren't as big as I'd like them to be at this age. Not entirely sure what happened. But now every time I check their crops are full. So I'll leave them alone.
But anyhow, here are some shots of the four presently being handfed. The oldest is the light tan and yellow baby with a light orangish cheek patch. The other three are whiteface babies. Should all be pearls, but I'm not sure about that last one. The last one, as shown in the last picture has mottled feet! Odd!
So soon they shall be out playing with me. I'm spoiling them! I was able to find a good bird stand to my liking. And that's on it's way. So now my time on the puter can also be time spent with babies as they can play with that and be right by my side having fun playing on their stand with all the toys I bought for them coming with this stand.
The one baby in here is a very very promising whiteface pearl. I love the look of pearls that have pearled feathers that are just barely laced in black. That's the prettiest look in my opinion. Time will tell. These guy's parents are still a bit mad at me, as they are new to this whole game yet. But hopefully in another week will start their second clutch. Man how time has been zipping by this year! Seems like just yesterday I put next boxes up!
they are great! I can imagine its fun watching them, hard to believe how they grow, compaired to your last serie photos of them. I hope the two albinos will catch up!
Here's yet another update! These four chicks are growing BIG, and fast! They were giving tell tale signs today of wanting to take that first flight. Flapping their wings and sending shavings everywhere with their practice. Won't be long now! They are still plenty nervous about everything, but hopefully in time they shall all settle down and understand that this is their new life. A normal family home. And so by this exposure here, their transition to a new home should be easier and more successful. But I really do believe their is a bit of having a knack for this that makes it easier for some people to get along with pet birds.
The oldest is a pretty cinnamon pearl pied pastelface. Though the pied effect isn't real obvious, but this baby does have several flight feathers that are yellow plus a large yellow patch on the back of it's head. But pretty how it's a soft brownish color, hence the name, cinnamon, with the yellow wash. And that cheek patch is a soft orange. This baby is also the most forward of the bunch wanting to be head scratched. But I find some of this forwardness is an age related issue. Chicks still in the nest typically have a fear response to everything.
Second oldest is a whiteface pearl het pied. Third is a cinnamon pearl het pied that is totally scared of everything at this point. Fourth is a whiteface pearl pied, with the mottled toes. This one is the youngest, and though fearful, not as bad off as the cinnamon in third position. Neat mottled toes...
The old pair of breeders had two albino looking chicks that for whatever reason the parents had momentarily stopped feeding very well. But now are back on track, so not sure how the babies will turn out in the end. both are now in pin feathers and showing their true identities. One is indeed an albino, but the other is actually a pastelface lutino. Both are now expected to make it and shall be joining the handfeeding group in the near future once they get some feathers on them.
My second oldest pair threw a first batch of all infertile eggs. So I had to toss the eggs and they renested. This batch, as of today, have had two hatch. First baby with typical yellow fuzz. The second though has white, thus a whiteface baby. So I'm glad the second pair is pulling it off after all. The first pair are now sitting on an egg of their second round. Plenty of action in the bird department round here!
