Mini vacation to Medora...

Back in Feb my wife and I decided it would be neat to do a quick getaway to a little western North Dakota tourist town of Medora in June. We'd drive out there Sunday, and be back Monday. So at that time we got the tickets for everything an reserved a room. Dummy me didn't check around a wee bit better to find out just how comfortable the place we reserved to sleep was. The claim was a queen bed, but we found it was more like a full size that was rock hard. I hurt in places that had contact with the mattress. Could have been like laying on the floor all night.

BUT! We had a great time otherwise. When we arrived Sunday afternoon it was in the upper eighties and thank goodness for air conditioning in the car...!!! We went ahead to the national park, Theodore Roosevelt. I got out with my camera and took a billion different pictures of flowers in the glaring sun. While my poor wife tried to stay cool in the car. We drove around on their thirty plus mile scenic loop that went up and and down and around and around through the badlands. Prairie dogs were quite thick and it was only by my wife's stern threats that prevented me from seeing if they can indeed dodge cars... She's just NO fun! Here are some pictures I got Sunday afternoon.

more pics...

the entire time one is doing this, you've got in the back of your mind that you ARE in rattlesnake country...however I didn't feel too troubled, as it was WAY too hot out in the open for any self respecting serpent. Only the bugs were out enjoying the glaring sun.

Buffalo!!!

Sunday afternoon's heat kept all non insect life under cover and trying to keep cool. So Monday morning we got up fairly early and headed out once again into the park. And lo and behold, we found buffalo. I wanted to do some hiking, but as you see in the first picture, we were held up...

Saw plenty of buffalo, deer were spotted, and a lone pronghorn in the distance was also seen.

Sunday night we did the pitchfork fondue and then the big musical they put on. Very good show! Will go again next year and this time bring little Rebecca with. But for the two of us, it was a nice getaway. And Grandma enjoyed having Rebecca for a night.

Cool little story Russell.
Sounds like you and the wife had a good time and got to get a way for a bit. I honestly can't believe it was 80 degrees......in North Dakota........IN FEBRUARY.
Very nice pics....as usual. But having seen all of them, and they were all good....the last one is awesome. A buffalo silhouetted inside those canyon walls.......next would have to be the yellow flower/plant amongst the rocks.

Thanks for sharing.

Well, that's what I had thought even after re-reading it again.......but, I couldn't really tell for sure (6 of one, 1/2 dozen of the other). I also knew global warming was becoming a problem but THAT would have been ridiculous.
Anyway, doesn't matter......nice pics again.
