Oh come on, Little Red Riding Hood is a great story, it has everything ; cannibalism, transvestism, and meals on wheels....

Yes... but instead of focusing on such enriching concepts, all kids can really remember about it is "The Big Bad Wolf!"

I know the story of Eve and the apple. Stories like this and Little Red Robin Hood, among others, passed down over the generations an innate fear of creatures we really know little about. They give a message, a GOOD message, but at the expense of rather innocent, secretive critters.
I would never teach these stories to my children.
Well, reading my daughter story book tales and teaching her bible truth doesn't seem to have affected her in any negative way. You should hear her sing out Jesus Loves Me in church. She's got the whole congregation chuckling through the song! Pastor said she's no longer allowed to sit in his pew. She sings better than he does. He he he.

But, for the sake of keeping to the topic at hand, let me turn again to my well used bible...

Proverbs 22:6
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Proverbs 16:16
How much better ist it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!

Anyhow, I would certainly teach my daughter as much bible as I'm able! I'd so much rather she know bible so that she doesn't fall into any strange quirky religion! And yes, there is every brand of religion you want out there including Satanism if you want it. I'm just simply stating that I take a different opinion than you do on teaching children bible. So here's my opinion, my opinion is that I believe the bible is the word of God and is most certainly a guidline for life. And truly digging into it for MYSELF and not letting someone else tell me their brand... I find salvation, perfect peace, hope, forgiveness, love, and so many other positive aspects of living a saved, born again, bible believing Christian life.

Cannibalism is enriching? *makes a mental note to not accept any offers for dinner at her house*

enriching concepts? in comparison to???

Plus, my daughter seems to function just fine knowing all the things she knows about wolves and doesn't seem to have nightmares at night due to reading fairy tales...

You know, I've used that story about Moses' Staff to try to talk a Christian out of their unfair views on snakes before. It didn't work! Too bad I didn't have the rest of your snake related bible quotes back then for backup.

I totally forget how hard it is to convey sarcasm in text! Now everyone's gonna think I eat people. Pfft....
Anyway, Russell, I wasn't saying teaching bible was in any way a bad idea. I just meant certain stories like the apple and Little Red (which I... at least hope... isn't in the bible).
It was really a generalization.

sadly though, you can have everything I've dug up and the rest and your still not going to convince them! You'll be right, but they are going to dig their heels in and still tell you it's evil! But at any rate, for US, using the bible, we see it just isn't so. So at least WE have peace of mind that they are just full of hot air on the issue!

now now, I'm sure hana too was conveying sarcasm also! It sure sounded like it to me! Anyhow, we don't think your a cannibal in any way! And it's ok, your safe, little red riding hood is not in the bible! LOL! And it isn't said exactly what fruit it was that was eaten.

I am a Southern baptist, and have never had someone say something about my snakes like that yet. Me thinks that satan also speaks through cats....
