Today I was putting baby candy canes away into seperate deli cups. And I spotted this HUGE healthy looking egg and thought...odd... So I pulled out my tin snips and got to work... ok ok, not tin snips, but my little sharp scissors from my college dissection kit that works wonders in situations like this. I carefully pushed one edge into the top of the egg going along with the edge of the shell so I wouldn't poke the baby inside. Clear fluid came forth and I thought, oops, surely this one is alive and well. Made a slit at an angle and pushed up the triangle shaped cut I had made. And inside it looked alive. But when I poked it with the scissors, it didn't move. And so I went ahead and pulled the baby out. And this is what I found...

that things like that happen. And at the same time, kind of interesting as to what may have caused something like that to happen.
Hopefully that doesn't ever happen again. (The gone wrong part that is)
I have had a number of DIE babies this year, but no twins. althou there is one
exeptionally large egg yet to hatch, that i suspect could be twins. Murphy stay away.
Aw. That is too bad. I guess it is gonna happen, and when you have as many clutches as you have (well, it seems to me that you have alot) odds are that it will happen sooner or later. I hope that the rest shed and eat well for you.
Thanks for posting these pics, Russell. They are kind of hard to look at, at first, but very interesting all the same. Amazing how nature works (or doesn't, in this case).

Sorry about that. Intresting to see though that they were connected at the head I saw a pair on MSN a viedo clip at a pet store of conjoined carmels they were joined in the middle both alive so it will be intresting to see if they can live that way. Again sorry to hear about your babies.
Oh my gosh, how horrible to have happen. I guess its like life, we get the bad as well as the good and we never know when it will happen. Poor lil Candy Canes best of luck with the rest...
