Another batch of baby cockatiels!

Here's my current batch of baby cockatiels. I had tried an early spring attempt at babies and really didn't get much as far as color. Just a bunch of gray whiteface babies. Well this round even the old pair produced one. The old pair that is SUPPOSED to be retired were given a nest box anyway and they laid three eggs and one hatched and it's the all white albino baby. The other two pairs, one pair had just the one, and the other had two. So sure I didn't get as many to hatch as I should have... I'm perfectly ok with that. Cause smaller groups are just easier to work with and tame. So it's the four, from left to right, the Albino, a cinnamon pearl pied whiteface, a gray pied whiteface, and then my favorite, a cinnamon pearl pied pastelface!
Enjoy!

pastel face. There are a couple cheek affecting colors floating around now, but pastel face is indeed different from yellow cheek. Pastel face is still orange but a real light orange at that. Where yellow...is yeah, yellow which I don't have. The retired pair that I have the male is a pastel face gray split lutino, cinnamon, pearl, and pied. His mate is an albino hen. And when you breed a pastel face to a whiteface about half the babies are pastel face and the other half are whiteface. So I kept a few cinnamon pearl pastelface from the old pair and they are the two hens that made up the usual pairing that I'm doing. But this year I did put two whiteface pieds together and they produced that cinnamon pearl pied whiteface baby.

Anyhow, thanks all for the compliments! I just wish I had more time to play with them than I do!

when you breed a pastel face to a whiteface about half the babies are pastel face and the other half are whiteface.

I like combos like this!! Have you noticed anything about the babies? As in White face are all one sex and the pastel faces are all the other?? I ask because I had a pairing like this and all the ones who looked like dad were females and all the ones who looked like mom were males. Was pretty cool actually I haevnt gotten to really talk to other breeders who have whities and pastels I had a few contacts but since then they have either gotten rid of all the 'exoctic' tiels or moved and didnt leave a way to contact them. I am so excited that I finally know someone again who has them

ah, I don't know, the pet store only gives me 60 for the whiteys and 50 for the pastel face babies... Frankly that's crazy since out on the normal bird market the pastel faces are the rare ones and way higher! But out here in the sticks, for whatever reason they are still paying more for the whiteface and pretty much ignorant of the rest! If I had the room I'd expand a bit on the tiels. I want to get some of the larger show quality stock and have a large flight for the flock rather than these large cages I have for them. I worked for a bird aviary for a couple summers and loved how they had it set up. If I get my critter basement someday, I'll likely have to include that in my design!

silly me...

no, the sexes are not related to the color with these two genes as they are not sex linked. Now, the Pearl, Cinnamon, and Lutino genes are sex linked so...with those yes, you could get females like dad, and males like mom or whatever...

Tiel genetics...can be wild! You should see my book collection...LOL! I'll likely always have tiels around.
