Suzie, the Amazing Jellybean Snake!

Suzie is a 2005 Hypo with a kinked tail. I got her out for feeding yesterday and saw she'd already eaten something...jellybeans by the feel of it.

She's only 85 grams and felt the need to ovulate.

That is a very nice looking snake, so sorry for the kink problem though. Dumb question here.....I would guess that this girl could never breed, correct? Also, if a kink was well below the vent, would it still be dangerous to breed her? Just curious for my own learning experience.
Once again, I think Suzie is a very nice looking girl.

The kink is past her vent, so no problems there. She's never had any problems shedding and I doubt she'd have any problems breeding/laying. But she was a freebie under the promise that I never breed her due to her deformity.

Still at this stage in our hobby, its unknown what spinal deformities are genetic and what are merely developmental and can't be passed on. So we play it safe with the majority of anomalies and don't knowingly breed them.

Regardless she's still a fun little snake and eats great. She along with my king snake are great garbage disposals.

Has anyone ever intentionally bred kinked snakes to test out the genetic component? Kind of like what Hurley and Serp are doing with the stargazers? I think it'd be interesting to go ahead and breed such a snake as yours to see what happened. I know you promised not to in this case, I'm just saying it would be interesting to see what such a snake produced.

Yeah, I did try this. I had a female that threw quite a few kinked offspring in 2000-2002 breeding seasons. In 2003 I bred her to one of her kinked sons and the offspring were fine.

I had all but removed kinking from my results in all clutches by then, just from getting the proper conditions for the eggs. It seems like some are more predispositioned to kinking, as if they are "more sensitive" to conditions. That in itself may be heritable, but I don't think we have a "kinking gene" anyway.
