Funky Skink

I spied this guy? hanging on the sunny side of a tree in the backyard through the window. So I grabbed the camera and ran out to go take a picture, but wouldn't you know it, the moment I got him sighted in and focused...he ran to the dark side of the tree.

Ah well, he was a mighty impressive looking lizard even in the shade. I don't see many of these that aren't dead in some fashion or another, so it was a real treat. I estimate he was a good 8" long (snout to tip of tail) and pretty thick.

Its definitely a good change of pace from the zillions of hoppy toads all over our yard. Trying to mow is like having to shuttle ducks across the road every few feet. Thankfully though, they know to head to a tree and sit next to it because the mower doesn't reach there.

Skinks are IMPRESSIVE creatures. They are almost snake like in movement, and FAST. What a wonderful find!

Thanks Misty, a great shot and another reason why I am home sick for Southern Indiana.

Nice shot...and yeah that looks like a broadhead. Love those fellers. Had one for a while that ate pinks and fuzzies. Total blast but I felt sorry for it so I let it go.
