Deer and Turkeys

All of a sudden the past few weeks have seen an upturn in the frequency of deer and turkeys traversing the yard. Since about April I've hardly seen any, and then all of a sudden, you could set your clock by them. Must be the mother-lode of black cherry crops, our yard is black under the trees with them.

A doe with a chicken companion..

Comparing the 3-slash mark on her side, she's also the mother of triplets this year..

Same doe with her 3 babies in the front yard this time..

And a very blurry picture of a gaggle of 11 turkeys; 6 of this years chicks and 5 adults. They're just so hard to get pics of, the moment they spy you in the window, they're gone in a flash.

Very beautiful, Misty! How wonderful to have a yard like that. Definitely not gonna see gorgeous wildlife like that where I live.

If only that worked Russell.

We were so psyched last year, my brother-in-law from Montana was coming to visit in October, just in time for bow season. So he brought along his bow and paid $200 for licenses and fees.

The weeks leading up to their visit, I sent them pics every day of the deer in the yard and the proximity to the house...how we were within 40 feet of a big doe, broadside, just off the end of the deck and she didn't move even when I waved my hands and of course the two Kings of the Glen, two huge bucks he was drooling over.

The starting day of deer season...not a single thing. We didn't see a deer in the yard again until almost December.

We were empty for deer last year, my uncle usually gets us one, but he only managed to get out to hunt a couple of times and only got one for himself. I actually had to get an extra one from the processors. Hunters hunt up to their limit, and after their freezers are filled with what they want, the extra ones are stripped for their back-straps and the processor keeps the rest and sells it to whomever wants it for the cost of processing.
