Suprise Suprise Suprise! [/Gomer Pyle]

Just as I thought I was winding down for the year, Hecate had other plans.

I'd noticed her pacing in her cage for the past week, digging at the corners, and generally looking like she was trying to get my attention. She had water, cage was clean, and she'd been fed recently so I couldn't figure out what her problem was.

I didn't breed her in 2006 to give her a year of vacation since she was bred every year since 2003 and she was looking a little raggedy. I fed her up and let her relax while everyone else was doing the work. Then this year, 2007, I didn't have any plans with her I was excited about so again she took the year off. But she wasn't having any of it, apparently.

Sunday night while I was removing a shed from one of her cohabitants (yes, I'm a bad keeper) and she came out of the cage and onto my arm. As I was handling her back and forth, I felt them..."lump bump, lump bump, lump bump"...and it was then it dawned on me. She's gravid!

So I fixed her up a nest box and within 20 minutes she was in it shoving coconut coir around and she'd settled in. I checked on Monday, nothing. I checked again yesterday and found this:

16 eggs in total, 11 look fertile

Just what I need, more hatchlings! If these hatch out, if they're from the last male she bred, they should be Amel Mots and Normal Mots poss het Caramel.

I haven't even sold any of my earlier clutches from this year. I've just got a severe case of the lazies and not wanting to go through the hassle of individual pictures, labeling, and shipping.
