Ah ah ah ah...stayin' alive!

Wee! So how's everyone else in the Midwest faring tonight?

Right before our power went out at 5:30 pm we had a severe thunderstorm warning and a tornado warning, it was horizontally raining out, and was 57*F (14*C)

By 7pm as the storms pushed their way past it was 26*F (-3*C) out and snowing and still no power. I really didn't expect them to respond as quickly as normal due to the high winds, freezing temps, and now frozen roads.

Fortunately before it hit was able to cook some frozen chicken fajitas, and the speed of the storms blew the severe stuff past quickly, so I came back up from the basement when the worst passed and had a nice lukewarm candle-light dinner. I am so getting a gas stove at some point this year.

I just closed off the exterior rooms which are draftier, and stayed cuddled up on the couch with a 70lb dog and 3 cats and took a 5 hour nap in the candle-light. Our house never got below 65*F.

Our power just now got back on at 12ish am and its currently 14*F (-10*C) out and the wind still sounds like a freight train in the backyard.

Looks like two of my fellow Hoosiers died in the storm in Posey County. Why they don't outlaw trailers in this part of the country is beyond me, you couldn't pay me to live in one with the severe weather we get.

I know the tornado's all too well growing up where the "alley" starts.......SE New Mexico/West Texas. We weren't as unfortunate as you guys from storms and power loss when the front blew through here in Central Texas, but it was 81* yesterday and 34* this morning.

Hope all gets back to normal for yall quickly.

well, I am not down that far but we had a huge amount of arctic air come through and our temps right now are -15. (-40 with windchill) WE had freezing rain monday night and then snow, with gusts of wind up to 40 mph... basically white out conditions. I am so glad we didnt loose power! omg.... we would have all frozen in the mobile home we live in. brrrrrrrrr We Might get to 0* today

We had an interesting day/night here too. It was nice and warm out yesterday morning then the temp dropped like a rock, the wind picked up, and instead of rain we got snow! I really thought the cars would be blown over by all that wind. It was crazy!

O.K., so the FL girl will not tell you all that I am still running around in short sleeves and sweating.

I do hope however that our forum members in the great white north stay safe and warm! I am glad to hear that you are O.K. and I hope that it stays that way! Remember stay away from the yellow snow!

Well one nice thing about cold weather is that it freezes the ground and I'm not slipping and sliding around the yard going to the chicken house and the chickens aren't covered in mud from being in the pen (although they did get let out today for grass and sunlight).

For all the weather eccentricities of living in the Midwest I wouldn't really trade it for anything. I don't see how people can live in an area where the weather doesn't really change (Florida, Southern California, Hawaii, butt end of Texas). I get sick of the same ole same ole and love my 4 seasons. I'd get bored out of my mind with every day sunshine, not to mention sunburned.

I'm glad you are ok. We had some CRAZY wind, making the snow that did fall look like a crazy sand storm... but with snow... I had no idea it may have been a side effect of what was going on in indiana tho... yikes...

I lived most of my life in upsate NY, and I loved the weather. I have now been living in the "Butt End of Texas" for 14 years, and I hate it. there are 2 seasons....summer and something that passes as winter. I would give anything to move back to an area that has 4 seasons and beautiful country. Ah well....maybe sometime soon.

anwyay, the weather here has been strange this year. 70's one day, down into the 30's that night and then back up to a high of about 40 the next day. been really interesting, and have a lot of people sick around here now.

*giggles profusely* See its hard for me to relate as I have never seen seasons except visiting someone. Arkansas was a real treat because they had snow in the Ozarks. My son didn't care two figs about it but loved crossing the snow and ice covered planks that were over a really cold little creek. He went back and forth over and over again and all I could think was "please don't fall in!" It was really fun but I do not know what I would think having that for months on end. I love the pictures of fall though. I would like to see that sometime. *sigh*
