Breeding Plans for 2007

So far the plans for 2007 are leaving me conflicted. Last year, I bred quite a few pairs and had mixed results. I guess I might be bit gun shy.

The one cross I know I'm going to try for a second time due to the unsuccessful outcome last year are with my Ghost Motleys, Echo and Granite.

Last year she laid a really good clutch that looked good throughout the incubation, but I think a glitch in the space heater in the room incubation method caused a heat spike that ultimately proved fatal to the embryos. All of the eggs went full term, but never hatched.

Another clutch I'm hoping to get a better result out of this coming year are my Snows, Freyja and Pepto.

Last year, most of her eggs were plagued with mold throughout the incubation. But they too were caught in the apparent heat spike and only two of the eggs hatched. Those two hatchlings were very "ball python-like" in appearance: short, fat, and stunted tails. Neither of them ever fed well and eventually just spontaneously died.

I'm debating whether or not to breed June, an Amel Motley-Stripe to her father, Diablo again. Last year's results ended up being eggs that either got caught up in the heat spike or were genetically doomed. None hatched, and most were kinked when removed from the shells.

Or to try her with someone else, but who and for what end result? Just some more questions to think about.

I think my Bloodred female, Garnet, might take a break this year and fatten up. Last year took a lot out of her on two clutches, after that second clutch she was literally deflated.

But so far coming out of brumation, she looks really good, so depending on how she fattens up after warming up, we'll see. If I decide she's looking good enough to go, I'll probably pair her up with Cardin, my Amelanistic Bloodred.

The Okeetees, Caldera and Ungeheuer, proved very fertile, but it being my first year ever hatching out Okeetees, I'm not sure how the offspring will grow up to look. They're so variable its hard to tell when they're so young and seemingly change with every shed.

Another couple of females I have that should be getting close are Petunia, a Hypo Lavender and Maize, a Motley poss. het Butter. But alas, I can't think of any good mates for them. Maybe the inspiration will come to me later.

I was hoping my 2005 Anerys het Hypo, Lavender, Motley might be ready. While they're close, I think its going to be another year on those. I guess good things come to those who wait.

Sounds good. Hope you will be lukyer than last year. If you have a chance to put a progression thread on one or 2 of your okeetees. I am sure it would be very interesting to watch.

Good luck.

I sure do hope things go a little better for you this time 'round. It's a shame that little lavender blood of yours isn't ready, eh?

Yeah, he's only 45g as of tonight! He eats like a horse, but doesn't put on much weight. I guess typical of Bloods. Either that or Dean's magick touch isn't on him.

My suggestion would be to breed June to Pepto for some amels and normals (do you know if there are anery genes in June?) het motley or to granite for some motleys het amel, hypo and anery. The other idea is to breed Maize to Granite for motleys het hypo, anery, poss het amel/caramel. Time would tell if those babies might produce butter mots, amber mots, ghost mots, etc. Just my .02.
