New Rack Attempt

So I attempted to build a rack like the one shown in TJSAC. It was quite a challenge to build it by myself. I thought I had the frame nice and square, but as I started to add shelves, I found out that it wasn't square or level after all. I had to undo and redo the frame. I finally got most of it finished. I think I have room for one more shelf, but ran out of melamine and will have to get some more before I can check. If I can add one more shelf, the rack will hold 24 twelve quart containers. Anyway, it's not perfect, but I guess it turned out OK. I found this method more difficult than my other racks, but maybe that's because it was my first one.

Well, here are a couple of pictures (please forgive the mess. I didn't feel like cleaning everything up tonight):

Thanks!

And I am glad not everyone thinks it is messy! I feel like I've got stuff piled everywhere!

One more comment about the rack...it really didn't cost much less than my other racks. It took four 2 x 4's and quite a bit of melamine to build it. I could have spent about $20-$30 more and made the complete rack out of melamine.

Interesting. You made the other ones with melamine sheets for the side walls then?

Yes, so I didn't have to worry as much about making sure it was square. I guess that's because there were less pieces of wood?

I forgot...I do have 3 racks made out of Presswood? It's like the melamine without the actual melamine...LOL
You can see part of one of them to the left of the rack. I MUCH prefer the melamine racks, though!

Guess I made all my racks like your others.... fully out of Melamine. I thought they were very easy to build. The solid, one piece sides definitely make it easy to square up. Heavy puppies, that's for sure... but I put casters on the original two, then on all I've built since. Makes them much easier to move. Wish my snake room wasn't carpeted.

Yeah - some of my older ones do not have casters. I am slowly working on fixing that, however. Thank goodness I don't have to deal with carpet!

Thanks for the compliments Brian!
